Contractor Marketing Services - 5 Things to Watch Out For
Hi again everyone, I’m Joe Burnich with Big West Marketing, coming to you from Missoula, MT. Marketing online can be a very lucrative endeavor, if you are easy to find online, your business will benefit greatly. However finding professionals to provide you with honest, effective online marketing can be difficult and at times, confusing. So in this video, let’s go over five things you should be on the look out for when working with an online marketing company.
1.) Beware of secretive companies. SEO, search engine optimization, is not black magic or highly technical. Google has laid out their parameters for ranking for everyone to see. So when you are speaking with a company about helping with your own SEO, be alert for signs that they are attempting to keep you in the dark or keep their own practices in the dark. They should be transparent in their techniques, at least with you, the paying customer.
2.) Don’t get stuck in any long term contracts. SEO and other online marketing strategies do take time but owning a business is already a risky endeavor. Trucks break down, business hits a lull, things happen. Sometimes these companies try to lock you in and that can put a small company in a bind, especially if you aren’t seeing results.
3.) Reputable companies love talking about themselves and their previous clients. Online reviews are the new word of mouth and any respectable company will be glad to show them off. So be hesitant of a company that won’t share current client info or send you referrals. This is a sign of a secretive company who probably doesn’t have very many happy past customers. Here at Big West Marketing, we are glad to send out a list, with phone numbers and emails, to potential clients that need a referral or two to seal the deal.
4.) When it comes to online marketing, there is bound to be some technical jargon associated with the product. A certain vocabulary is needed to converse intelligently but over-complicated technical babble should not be used as a selling point or as a mask to hide what a company really does. So if you are on the phone with an online marketing company and they cannot break down what they do into layman’s terms, this should throw up red flags.
5.) Watch out for high upfront costs. Sometimes, there is a thought process that because something is so expensive, it must be effective. This is not always the case, especially with online marketers. There are still many scams out there that will take as much money as they can from you without producing any results! So be cautious, it will cost money, but not every cent, up front.
So when you decide to hire someone for your online marketing needs, be sure to keep these 5 tips on hand. It can be a cut-throat market place out there, so being informed is a key part of making the right decisions.
