Best Contractor Advertising Online - Top 3 Ways
Hi everyone, I’m Joe Burnich here with Big West Marketing and today we are going to talk about Advertising Online. There are many different ways of showcasing your business online and generating new leads, but we are going to focus on the top 3 ways to advertise online. They are: 1. Google SEO + Reviews, 2. Pay Per Click and 3. Facebook Ads. Let’s discuss the pros and cons of each.
First, Google Seo. When you do a Google search and scroll down, you will see the map section with the top 3 or 4 organic search results from Google. Organic search results are not paid for, these are results that appear due to good SEO practices. If your business appears in this map section, your phone is guaranteed to be ringing off the hook. In order to rank high up on Google, you need a few things. First, you need a physical address and you can only rank in the city where you are located. Do not trust a SEO service that says otherwise. Also, customer reviews are crucial in getting you ranked at the top of Google. Testimonials from past clients are key to bringing in new business, especially in the Contractor business realm. Potential clients want someone they can trust before they let you into their home and give you permission to alter it in some way.
The Pros of Google SEO are that you will get the most amount of calls and it is less expensive then paying for ads. The Cons are that it is a long term strategy that can take 4-8 months before results appear. Also, you can only rank in the city that your business is located.
The second best way to advertise online is with Adwords, or Pay Per Click. Pay Per Click or PPC is paid online advertising. These are the search results that appear on Google with the little “Ad” next to them. They are usually before the organic search results. Nowadays, the SEO results are further and further down below PPC ads on the page. This is making PPC more effective than ever. With PPC, you can pick specific keywords associated with your business that people will search for and get your business to appear in the search results. This can be especially competitive in larger cities, driving the price of particular keywords up.
The Pros of Adwords are that it is a fast system. You can have a campaign up and running the next day. Another advantage is that you can rank in any city. Adwords does not discriminate if you are paying money. Which leads to the Cons, Adwords, or PPC, can become very expensive. It is based on an auction system so prices for certain keywords can become very high in big cities or where services are very competitive. Remember, each time your ad is clicked on it costs money, even if no lead comes from it.
And the third way to advertise effectively online is with Facebook Ads. Facebook Ads are great because you can get really specific with the audience you are trying to zero in on. Facebook has so much data on it’s users, you can target home-owners or people of a certain age easily.
When it comes to Facebook Ads, the Pros are that it is super easy to target a specific audience. This leads to great follow-up opportunities and re-targeting where a potential client will see you ad reoccur over time, building a trust. This is great for the long-term sell, like if a client is thinking about putting on a new roof or remodeling a kitchen. Facebook Ads are also affordable, if done correctly. The Cons of Facebook Ads are that you must be on top of your social media game. You need unique content, pictures of current projects, before and afters, tips and ideas. Make sure you have someone in your business that can maintain and continue updating your Facebook page during the campaign. Finally, with Facebook, remember people are not in the “buying-mode” meaning that they are usually their for socializing where as with Google, people are searching for a specific product they are interested in.
So when it comes to your Contractor business, focus on these three techniques to advertise your business online. Google SEO and Reviews, Adwords and Facebook Ads. These are the main platforms that generate new business. Make sure you understand and are familiar with how each works before you spend time and energy building a campaign.
